Mut tehhääs enis vähä hommii. Meil o talvi tulos, talvi usseest tietää lunta, joskii muutama viime talv on olt vähä sillee kiikukaaku sen suhtee. No kuitekii. He knows our yard and road like the back of his hand, but it's a habit of mine to do this every fall (besides, I like to drive home with the reflectors twinkling in the headlights, it's cosy.) So I went and put up the snow plough markers.

Then I came inside and started cooking: a quiche, buns and an oatmeal cookie.

Twice a year there's the village fair with sellers from around the country. The tradition is to buy a kringle from the fair but it's never been my cup of tea. I do however have two purchases every time: a small butcher shop sells different sausages and other processed meat, and they have these salamis - more like chorizos actually in size and taste - made of elk meat. They're delicious. So I got them and then some pigtails from my trusted dog supply vendor. They sew collars and leashes and whatever you need, but this time I didn't have money other needs than the pigtails. The dogs greeted them with great joy, I can assure you. The salami on the other hand, well, one of the six I bought ended up in a pasta salad with sundried tomatoes and feta cheese and olives and garlic salad sauce. I made a huge bowl of salad, then sat down and ate. For quite a long time.

Korrui - Jewellery

Tuntuu pientä virikettä korupuolel, kahotaa mite pitkää sitä piisaa. Nää tein eile, hoppeeta, lassii ja patinoituu messinkii.

I feel a slight tingle in my jewellery-making muscle, we'll see how long this will last. These I made yesterday, glass with silver and patinated brass.

I got a recipe for marshmallows years ago from my friend and tasted the ones she made, they were really good. Last night the wheels of the world had finally reached a point where I got around to try myself. They're really good! And swee-ee-eet, too. In the store a small bag of marshmallows was priced 6 euros, so this saves, too. Next week I'm advancing to making fudge.

The Finns have celebrated kekri since I don't know when. It has been forgotten and replaced with All Hallow's Eve and Halloween even, but here in the east kekri is still remembered. I've warmed towards it, it's almost my favourite celebration (except for winter solstice and spring equinox, for I am a light-guided creature). I also like the idea that this is the time when the year changes. So I'm celebrating kekri like they used to waaayyy back when, with good food. Grandma bought me a salmon as well as some carrots from the market, so salt-cured salmon and carrot cake are on the menu. And the marsmallows on top.

I got this beautiful bubble wrap envelope in the mail. I was saving this as a reward for myself for surviving the eye laser treatment but I was just so exhausted yesterday that I postponed the joy of opening it till today. See my friend Anna is a craft supply specialist and an all-around expert guru wonderful person type woman, and she had used Inka Gold colours and shown what she'd done in her blog, and ever since that day I've been wanting to try these. So I asked her if the colours are available in sortiments so you could try more than one colour. Unfortunately they're not, but she offered to send me a little bit of her own paints and here they are.

Juu no mie kuitekii jatkoin sil ikäväl sukkapuikol viikinkiketjuu. Nyt oon jatkant jo kolmel metrisel pätkäl ja aittelin tehä sammaa syssyy nii pitkäle ko jaksan, ain sitä voip sit pätkii lyhkäseks.

I decided to continue the viking knit with the uncooperative knitting needle after all (since I didn't want to go and buy a wooden stick and there weren't any of the suitable size at home). I've done a few meters of wire already, adding on a new piece when they run out, and will continue for as long as possible. You can always chop the finished chain into pieces.

I already crocheted one shawl with this pattern. Today I remembered I might have some woollen yarn stashed and damn right I did, 1,2 kilos of it. Oh, the days I had money, how I bless you now! So I asked my friends on Facebook if anyone wanted the yarn or a shawl of it, and there was demand for a shawl. And since I purchased a set of wooden crochet hooks from ebay for peanuts a while back, I had just the correct size for this yarn and now I just crochet away. This is 100% wool so the shawl should be warm and chunky yet light when it's finished.

I won the genetic lottery (NOT) and managed to get all kinds of faults and defects, some of which are in my eyes. So I get to go to regular checkups, which result in operations and procedures. Today I had one, which included dilating eye drops and green laser. It's about as fun and painless as it sounds, but the nurses are great. the doctor was good and nowadays the nurses ask if you want some painkillers first (which I highly recommend, should this ever happen to you. TAKE IT.) So first the eye drops - there are at least two different sort, plus one numbing drop which is applied just before the procedure begins. All of them sting. Then the green laser - yes it hurts but significantly less with the painkillers, and it's a quick operation anyway, so no need to lose sleep over it. Afterwards it's wise to take an hour or so and let your pupils settle. I took some pasta salad, coffee and a piece of cream roll with me and had a nice break eating and watching a TV series in the lobby before putting on some sunglasses and driving home (getting cheap food from bigger stores on the way, naturally). The eyes will return to normal by the next day at the latest.
