I finally found aliexpress when looking for a nice geeky case for my new monthly payment phone. There actually is a Tardis-themed one I'm going to purchase at some point. (Actually I would have wanted a case with Toothless on it, especially the one with just the eyes and snout, but there weren't any for my phone model WHICH SUCKS BIG TIME.) I also needed a new wallet for all the money I'm going to earn now that I have a few months continuous work. My old wallet was falling apart. So there. Mischief managed.

I watched my first anime films this winter (finally) and it was pretty predictable which character I found the most adorable. This one cost 4 dollars including postage. But didn't find a Toothless wallet either WHICH SUCKS etc. Anyway, this wallet is dedicated for my pension savings. So far it's empty.

Tatu and Patu are two anarchistic brothers who are inventors and live in Strangeville. There's a series of childrens' books about them, the movie was released last year and the dvd is now at the library. I liked it.

I'm a member of a nerdy flea market online which has improved my life a lot (I'm looking at my Police Box lunch box with love). Someone was selling Skyrim at a bargain price so naturally I went for it - I have wanted to play it for years but haven't had a console/computer that could run it until now. I got a PS3 via my brother in  the winter and then got about five Assassin's Creed games which I absolutely love. Now I can add Skyrim to the menu as well and if my friends are to be trusted (and they usually are) I will not need anything else to do for about a year.

Before Skyrim I need to finish the legendary 90s tv series Prime Suspect, though. It was available here and there in the cooperating libraries so I ordered all the episodes and now I'm nearly done, only two of the seven episodes left. Helen Mirren is great as are the other actors, from Fiennes to Capaldi. Suberb acting, great plots.

Game of Thrones & Force Awakens

Having little money means one has to learn self control in terms of yearnings and wants and desires. There by I waited peacefully biting my nails for the last episode of season 6 of Game of Thrones to be available before booking the free month from HBO. Did that, started watching the day before yesterday and finished yesterday evening. And what a season it was! So I started rewatching immediately. No spoilers - this season will be on Finnish TV in the autumn and it's well worth waiting for. I managed to dodge most of the spoilers myself, the people I facebook with are civilized intelligent human beings and it's common practise to hide all spoilers.

Then I got a SMS inviting me to collect the Force Awakens dvd from the library. With this one the time was too long to totally avoid spoilers but I don't care: it is here. Finally.

So people, cherish your libraries. They give equal opportunity to all to borrow anything from audiobooks to movies, language courses to novels. Let's keep them tidy and visit them often, so that some stupid politician in the capitol won't cut their funding totally.

I had a wonderful time putting all the spices and ingredients into jars, marking each carefully so I won't mix them up and end up with rather interesting dishes. Now all I need is a leg of a lamb and Moroccan scents will take over the house.

Chickpea flour is not available in our little stores and chickpeas themselves are expensive enough that I haven't made flour of them, they always end up either in a curry or the yummy salad by Jamie Oliver. Now that I have this I'm going to test some chickpea based breads, including poppadom which I've always wanted to make at home. We'll see how it goes. I don't wish to upset you or anything but you do realize I have the best friends in the world. Thank you, California Girl ;)

House of Cards

But first, let's eat. I made a chickpea curry with rice the other day. I didn't use all the chickpeas I boiled, so today I made another version with soybean meat. I cooked and drained them, then fried them with jeera and curry and tandoori spice and onion and garlic, added the chickpeas, then half a veggie broth cube & 2 dl of water and a squirt of tomato púree. I let it simmer for a while, took the pan off the heat and then poured in some leftover yoghurt. Done.

So I watched the new season of House of Cards and it was good, no surprise there. While watching I knitted a sock and started another. Today I gave my shoulders a rest and made jewellery instead. This is faux jade with copper.

Our new gadget! I'd like to name it K-9 (Whovians will understand). We got some fish from our neighbour so we were able to test it right away, and it was all we hoped for and more.

I finished these today. I asked my friends on Facebook if someone wanted them and they found a new home instantly. Another pair was requested too and I started the first one just minutes ago. My plan is to use as much yarn from the stash as possible and give away whatever I knit, just to spread some joy (and warmth). Also, my personality is such that I sometimes have trouble justifying binge watching to myself. Knitting while watching Netflix seems to give it a purpose, and my not-so-normal body its much needed rest. So, it's a win-win situation in the end. Perhaps the resting helps with my sciatica as well. It has been with me as long as the temperatures have been under -15 = for weeks already.

Borgioista Broadchurchiin - From the Borgias to Broadchurch

The cold has an inevitable consequence, sciatica. Therefore I've tried to keep my arse warm with a heating pad and this. They've kept it at bay and since I've had to stay quite still to let the remedies do their thing, I'm now done with 3 seasons of Borgias and moved to Broadchurch (British version) which was awesome.

Brother dear gave me and old TV. I hooked the old dvd player with it and jeez, it started working. Then I connected my PS1 with the spare TV and it started working too - it used to be muted, but now there's audio and all, so I'll hear when bogeymen are closing up on Lara. Then I was facing a difficult choice: to practice yoga or oriental dancing from dvd, or to run with Lara on playstation, or to watch Doctor Who on Netflix or something on normal telly, or to just lie on the sofa in between meals? Life is full of choices.

I wasn't supposed to get any yule presents this year. Right. First there was one surprise, then a load of firewood appeared, today I got some 45 Carelian rice pies, and Gran mentioned a piece of pork. In addition to all these, there was a parcel in the mail today, so I do have a present to open on Christmas Eve. I'm all mushy and overwhelmed and teared up here. Friends, they're the best thing.

DIY version innovation! I saw Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream at the store, the price was a whopping 7 euros for a small cup and I thought hell no. So instead I bought - duh - cookie dough for 1,65 euros and grated some over regular vanilla ice cream which I already had in the freezer. Everyone knows that gingerbread dough gets ruined when it's baked, right? It's at its best raw and this is (so far) the tastiest way to eat it. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

And since I'm not the start-preparing-for-yule-in-june-type, I'll probably just hoover a little and go get a spruce from the field and decorate it and cook good food (which I'd do anyway), I've had quality time with the Doctor in space and time. Today I went shopping with Mom and caught myself checking out the lanterns to see which ones were the right shape so they could be painted to look like the Tardis. I've also found myself googling for replicas of River Song's journal. This is geek life, you get carried away with something totally, and in my case they seem to be forever. If I'm into something, I'm into it for good. (Yes, I'm going to see The Force Awakens as soon as it's possible to do so.) And I probably wouldn't want it any other way.

Puuhommii ja Tohtorii - Firewood chores and the Doctor

Viikoloppun olin puuhommis. Did some firewood things during the weekend. I am also doing my best to see all the seasons of Doctor Who before Netflix removes them. Yes, I finally gave in to Netflix, they offered a free month and it seemed all my gadgets for dvd viewing were more or less kaputt, so I was lacking good entertainment (especially since Downton Abbey is on hold until the holiday season special and Bron/Broen/The Bridge ended as well, le sigh). So, I thought I'd finally patch up this hole in my nerdiness and try out Doctor Who. And there I am, starting with the ninth Doctor (the older Doctors will have to wait for now, since they're not on Netflix), until suddenly during an episode of season 2 there's this announcement that the season will be removed from Netflix at the end of the month. Gasp! WTF? Same announcement with season 3 - that's where I am at the moment, halfway through. Therefore, this Whovian's off to space nearly every evening, fortunately at this time of year the evenings are long and dark and there's no snow to be cleared from the yard so I have good time to do that.

Korrui - Jewellery

I have several pendants ("Findings from the Resin Era") in my bead boxes, so I took them out and made them into jewellery.

I won the genetic lottery (NOT) and managed to get all kinds of faults and defects, some of which are in my eyes. So I get to go to regular checkups, which result in operations and procedures. Today I had one, which included dilating eye drops and green laser. It's about as fun and painless as it sounds, but the nurses are great. the doctor was good and nowadays the nurses ask if you want some painkillers first (which I highly recommend, should this ever happen to you. TAKE IT.) So first the eye drops - there are at least two different sort, plus one numbing drop which is applied just before the procedure begins. All of them sting. Then the green laser - yes it hurts but significantly less with the painkillers, and it's a quick operation anyway, so no need to lose sleep over it. Afterwards it's wise to take an hour or so and let your pupils settle. I took some pasta salad, coffee and a piece of cream roll with me and had a nice break eating and watching a TV series in the lobby before putting on some sunglasses and driving home (getting cheap food from bigger stores on the way, naturally). The eyes will return to normal by the next day at the latest.

Leipomine on vähä jäänt kaike muu tielt, mut mutsikatha pit käyttää hyväks samatie. Pannukakku ja varsinaine ruoka sit samal uunil säästäväisest.

I haven't baked in a while but now that I had fresh blueberries, I decided it was time for a blueberry pie. And since I heated the oven, it was cost effective to make a pancake and the actual dinner in it, too.

Tännää se sit ol eis, Miss Fisherin viimone jakso. Joo, kivat cliffhangerit jättiit tietenkii, eikä päätöstä neljännest kauvest oo kuulemma ees viel tehty! Ihmisii kiusaamista tämmöne, mie vaa sanon! Etekii, ku viel on melkei vuos vissikii seuraavaa Sherlock-kauteekii, puhumattakaa muist sarjoist ja elokuvist mitkä viipyyt jossai leikkaamos ihaliiakauva tälläse fani mielest. No, ei auta ko kahtoo vanhoi ja koitella ain välil jos löytys muita suosikkiloita, niihä tää neitikii yllätti iha puu takkaa.

Today marks the day they showed the final episode of season 3 of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and I'm quite devastated. They left a nice cliffhanger of course, even though there's no decision to shoot season 4. This is tormenting people, people. Not a nice way to handle a growing fandom. Poor me, I'm also waiting for Sherlock's season 4 and a few other series and films to finally emerge from the post production phase. I will probably sooth my feelings watching old favourites (well hello Firefly & crew!) and try some new series just in case there are hidden gems - after all, Miss Fisher surprised me totally, so there might be others just waiting.
