These narrow ones usually are not a problem. They fit into the device and need only one crunch for holes. For this second recipe book attempt I cut the pages, covered the front and back covers with this beautiful Botanicabella series paper. The next challenge was to make the holes so that they are evenly spaced as well as neatly at the same distance from the edge of the paper. Fail in either one, and you will be mad at yourself. There's a plastic button in the device which is supposed to do both of these things - you squeeze it in one of the holes you crunched the first time and hey presto, neat holes.
In theory.
The reality is you need to press the cover really tight against the platform. But I managed, hey I managed! All the inner pages were neatly pierced at this point. So then I crunched holes to the front cover - still going strong! Beautiful neat holes in a straight line. All that was left was the back cover - I put it in the machine, thought of something else for a split of a second and crunched the handle down, piercing the wrong side of the cover. Fortunately there was a method in my madness: the cover is a rectangle, not a square, but I only managed to pierce it so that the image on the back cover is now upside down. There was the possibility of piercing one of the other sides, which would have meant that the rectangle would have been 90 degrees off the front cover.
So it is what it is like most of my projects. Fortunately I've grown so accustomed to making these mistakes, that nowadays I can use these not-so-perfect things I've made. In the old days I used to store them somewhere - couldn't use them, when they constantly reminded me of doing a stupid mistake, nor could I give them away, faulty as they were. You can't really recycle them either, as when the binding is done, the metal binding can't be reused, it really doesn't look good anymore if you take it apart and bind it again. So I used to tear these, burn the paper and cardboard and recycle the metal waste. So now I use them, and yes they still remind me of the mistakes done there, but I'm dealing with it, at least to some point.
