Jooh elikkäs mie löysin sellasen ko aliexpress, ko olin ehtimäs miu uutee osamaksuluurii kuorii, sellasi mielellää nörttihenkisii. Siel yhet onkii, Tardikset, jossai vaihees ne hankin koha kerkiin. I finally found aliexpress when looking for a nice geeky case for my new monthly payment phone. There actually is a Tardis-themed one I'm going to purchase at some point. (Actually I would have wanted a case with Toothless on it, especially the one with just the eyes and snout, but there weren't any for my phone model WHICH SUCKS BIG TIME.) I also needed a new wallet for all the money I'm going to earn now that I have a few months continuous work. My old wallet was falling apart. So there. Mischief managed.

I watched my first anime films this winter (finally) and it was pretty predictable which character I found the most adorable. This one cost 4 dollars including postage. But didn't find a Toothless wallet either WHICH SUCKS etc. Anyway, this wallet is dedicated for my pension savings. So far it's empty.

Tatu and Patu are two anarchistic brothers who are inventors and live in Strangeville. There's a series of childrens' books about them, the movie was released last year and the dvd is now at the library. I liked it.

I'm a member of a nerdy flea market online which has improved my life a lot (I'm looking at my Police Box lunch box with love). Someone was selling Skyrim at a bargain price so naturally I went for it - I have wanted to play it for years but haven't had a console/computer that could run it until now. I got a PS3 via my brother in  the winter and then got about five Assassin's Creed games which I absolutely love. Now I can add Skyrim to the menu as well and if my friends are to be trusted (and they usually are) I will not need anything else to do for about a year.

Before Skyrim I need to finish the legendary 90s tv series Prime Suspect, though. It was available here and there in the cooperating libraries so I ordered all the episodes and now I'm nearly done, only two of the seven episodes left. Helen Mirren is great as are the other actors, from Fiennes to Capaldi. Suberb acting, great plots.

Syksyy - Autumn

Mie haluaisin oikeest nähä japanialaise autoinsinööri tahi asentajan kätöset, jot mite pienet ne on. Meinaan jot miu käet ei oo mitkää iha lapiot ja ahasta on aina ko pittää polttimo vaihtaa. Tul taas niiolle ajeltuu kuukaus par puolvaloloil enneks mie otin ja vaihoi sen hito polttimon. Reilu vartti män aikaa, ja tää ol se helpomp puol, vaik akkukii on eis. I would really want to see the hands of a Japanese car engineer slash repairperson as I want to know how small their hands are. Mine aren't actually shovel-sized but still changing the bulb is a pain in various bodyparts. Therefore I drove for a month or two with half lights until the summer light had vanished to the point I couldn't avoid the task longer. It took more than fifteen minutes and may I add this is the easier side, even though the battery is way too close. When the left one goes I usually drive to a garage and let them do the job, as I like to have the skin on my hands hole-free. With my lifestyle the wounds and scratches tend easily get infected (see next photo).

I bought some frozen chicken wings with legs from a dog food lorry that drives around the country and stops here and there once a month. 15 kilos of them, in fact. They're frozen solid when bought so to make life easier, I let them thaw just a bit and then take the block apart and bag and freeze it again. The Swedish Mora knife is for sizing and with Tigga helping, the job took two hours.

It was a horrible summer weatherwise so I didn't expect much from the garden. In addition to peas and beans kale grew nicely, though, and lately there has been zucchini, which is quite a surprise to me. It's about time I harvest all of it, there's a whooping 7 degrees Celsius outside, if that.



Tungin sit kesäkurppaa piirakkaa fetan ja nokkosii ja aurinkokuivatu tomaati (olliit muute Lidlis tarjoukses eurol purkki! Ostin kuus!) ja ööh minkähä muun kans. No siis kuitekii, 1 muna, 1 ruokakermapurkki, täytteeks sitä mitä nyt sattuu olemaa ja ihetehty voitaikinapohja. Loput kesäkurpat raastoin ja pistin pakkasee tulevii kasvispihvilöi varte.

I made a quiche-ish pie with zucchini and nettles and feta and sundried tomatoes (they were on sale at Lidl, 1 euro per jar! I bought six!!) and 1 egg and some cream. Then I grated the rest of the zucchini and froze it, it will become veggie burger steaks in the future.




Lehtikaali käsittelyy mie tän salaattilingon kirpparilt ostin ja siinhä se on hyvä ko hitto. Kannatti maksaa (ja hyvä jot sattu olemaa) neljä euroo.

The salad spinner I found at the flea market for 4 euros has been put to good use with kale. Glad I found it (and had the four euros).

You might have noticed how I barely can contain my excitement about the weather, time of year and that kind of stuff.

I gave a few family members a ride during the week and had to stop to take a pic of this - it says Border Control. These are new, never seen them before.

Ostoksii ja ylläreitä - Shopping and surprises

No nii, jo alko taas puikot viuhumaa eli pyyvettyi sukkii neulotaa jot suhina käyp. Tontuharmaist alottelin.

Got the yarn and knitting away like crazy. I started with the darkest yarn, defined by the future user as "gnome grey".




Kuukivvee ja hoppeeta ja riipus on Inkku-ystävält, se on aurinkokvartsii.

Another friend was worried about my chocolate consumption. Both are delicious.



Käväsin pitkäst aikaa kirpputoril ja sinnehä ol tuotu taas miu värilöi ja pitämättömii vaatteita. Kuuvel eurol sain puuvillaneuletakin, puuvillatopi, napaka hammee ja pellavatunikankii viel. Nyt ko vaa pääsen eriksee näis(kii) olevast Eau de Persili hajust, mie en totta mooses ymmärrä jot käytetää pesuainetta mis on noi vahva haju mist tulloo pää kipiäks. Mut onneks tuulettamine jeesii ja jos ei se, ni etikka viimistää.

I visited the local flea market after a long while and it was worth the visit. Found all of these brand new clothes for six euros and in my colours. Cotton and linen and a quality skirt, the material of which is unknown as the previous owner had cut the labels. Saves me the trouble - I hate labels and take them off always, they scratch my skin. Now all I need to do is get rid of the Eau de Persil scent, I honestly don't understand using a detergent with a strong smell that gives me migraine. But it's a small nuisance after all, and if nothing else helps, vinegar will dissolve the smell.

Uusii leluloi - New toys

A mie käin vähä kaupungis. Siel tutus osto- ja myyntiliikkees. Silmii osu tuollane haudutuspata, hintaa hänel ol kakskymppii, ja messinkine morttel, sama pyynti. Mie sit vähä aikaa siin pyörin ja sit ko haasteltii omistajasetän kans, ni häähä tek miule tarjouksen mist en voint kieltäytyy jot kumpkii yhteesä kahelkympil.

I went to town to meet a friend and while there I visited a nice second hand shop. I noticed there was a slow cooker for sale for 20 euros and a brass mortar and pestle for the same price. I hung around for a while and before long the owner made me an offer I could not refuse: 20 euros for both items together. Ha!




No sithä sitä käytettii ensiks viilisatsi tekemises ja sen jälkee juolaht päähä kokkeilla leipäjuusto tekemistä, ko samal reissul löysin juustojuoksutintakii apteekist. Tarvikkeet kolme litraa punasta maitoo, 2 teelusikallista juoksutinta ja ropsaus suolaa.

First we made viili, then it was time to try and make Finnish squeaky cheese. 3 litres of whole milk, two teaspoons rennet, a pinch of salt.





Juoksutin tek ensiks lämpimäs maijos taiat ja sen jälkee lapioin juustotekelee siivilää kulho pääle, jääkaappii valumaa yö yli. Tul kolme satsii.

After the rennet had worked its magic in the warm milk it was time to put the cheesestuff in a colander over a bowl and let it strain overnight in the fridge.

Ja sit tälläsen se tul sielt pois. Jäähtyissää se sai oikeelaise rakentee ja vähä sitä vinkuukii alko löytyy. Ei paha ensimäiseks kokeiluks, varmast tehhää uuvestaakii, ko tää kolme vuuallista makso suunnillee saman ko 200-grammane pala leipäjuustoo kaupas. Hera otettii tokikii taltee ja käytetää koha mihi keksitää.

And the final product. As it cooled down the structure became much better, and after a few hours the traditional squeaky sound while biting the cheese appeared, too.  This 3-litre test batch cost about the same as a 200-gram piece of cheese in the grocery store, so we'll probably make it again. I froze some of the whey strained from the cheese for further use, some I gave to the dogs as a booster. Will report good ways of using it in the future.

Keittiös - In the kitchen

Nii, se sit tul.

Winter has come.





Tännää ol (taas) sellane päivä jot tuntu jot tarvitaa toimintaa. Nii jot kauppareissun jälkee käin sit leipomaa. Käin muute kauppareissul kirppiksel ja löysin neljä euro nahkasaappaat, wuuhuu! Sellast pitkävartist. Pies pittää nahakunnostuspäivä ja öljytä kaik poposet, se on syksyhommist viel vähä niiko tekemättä. Sit ne pyssyyt kuivin ja hyvännäkösin. Märis kengis tulloo märät varpaat, ja märist varpaist tulloo lunssa ja vit... vilustumine. Nii. Sitähä myö ei tahota.

No kuitekii, tuumasin sit jot ko aineita ol jot mie vähä jottai. Tul quiche, omppopiirakka, pizza ja pastasalaatti. Today I felt like doing stuff (again) so I baked a quiche, an apple pie, some pizza and made a pasta salad. I listened to Waltari's The Adventurer, where Mikael is caught between Denmark and Sweden as they fight for power. I got him safely to Lübeck while baking. There are hours of it left plus the whole second part, and when I'm done with Mikael, I really need to get my hands on other Waltari audio books (if they exist). They're just so classy and interesting with a vivid view into history.

I visited the local flea market today and found knee-high leather boots for 4 euros. Since the snow is here I really need to take the time and oil & polish all my leather shoes - a bit of maintenance now and then keeps them in good shape, they look brand new and stay that way, too. Besides: wet shoes equal wet toes, and that equals misery. And possibly a cold. Trust me on this, I'm a Finn.

Shoppailemas - On a shopping spree

Koiraruoka alko loppuu. Meijä vanhemp hauvel on iho-ongelmaine, kapsuttaa rapsuttaa hirmusest erityisest kesäaikan. Yllättäi oireet väheniit minimii ko vaihettii ruokaa mis ei oo vehnää, eikä väri- tahi säilöntäaineita, nykysii hää kapsuttelloo pari päivää uimise jälkee, mut muute hyvi vähä. Nii jot kanariisil männää. Täl kertaa Kennelrehu aikataulu ei nyt osunt tähä tarpeesee, nii jot pit ajella hakemaa kaupast naapurpaikkakunnalt, omalt ei saa. Jos kenel muute on koira ja ostaa sille luita ja muuta ns. barffii, ni suosittelen lämpimäst Kennelrehhuu. Halpaa ja hyyvvää. Mei koirat välil vähä tuhahtelloot kaupa luile, mut Kennelrehu luile eivät millokaa. Rouskutus alkaa kuuluu välittömäst ko luun tyrkkää kirsu alle.

Nii jot siin sit matkal aittelin ehtii kirpparloilt valurautapannuu, samoil bensoil ko kerra niil hoodiloil liikuin. Vanha teflonine on reikäne pinnotteeltaa ja siihe alkaa jäähä kiine kaik. Nykysii ossaan ostaa ainoostaa sellasii mitkä käyp pääle suoraa ja jättänt kaik "täst tulloo iha hyvä jos mie vaa vähä..."-vaatteet rekkii. Toki oon värjänt ja kirjont ja korjant joitakii vaatteita, mut en osta suoraa tuunattavaks mittää ennää, ei oo järkee, ko on muutekii puuhaa iha tarpeeks. Nää män just konneesee ja sit kuivumaa ja sit pääle, huuhteluaineen käytän etikkaa, kirppisvaatteis ko on monest melko voimakas Eau de Persil-haju, ihmist käyttäät hirmuse voimakashajusii pyykipesuaineita, ja se haju on saatava pois jottei tuu pää kippeeks.

I was running out of dog food. The elder dog used to have skin problems, she scratched herself all the time, especially during the summer. So I tried a diet change and it worked, nowadays she scratches for a couple of days after swimming, but otherwise she's healthy and happy. I often buy dog food from a company whose trucks drive around the country by a specific schedule and deliver pre-ordered dog food to buyers but this time the timing was wrong so I got the food from a store nearby and visited three flea markets in the hood. I was especially looking for a cast iron skillet, my old teflon frying pan isn't working anymore, the teflon is partially broken so the pan burns food. I did some Internet research first, of course, and came to the conclusion that cast iron is the best choice. After all, all frying pans become useless eventually, some faster than others, but you can always restore cast iron to its former glory.

There were none, however. There were some other interesting things, like a meat grinder and a pressure cooker, but they were out of my budget range. But I did find clothes, again. My buddies are getting a bit envious of my flea market luck, at the moment about 85% of my wardrobe is flea market based, but you wouldn't know it if I didn't tell you. The clothes are mostly brand new.

My catch this time included an anorak (3 euros), a long-sleeved brand new shirt (50 cents), a polo-neck ribbed shirt made of 100% silk - yes, 100% silk!! - (50 cents), a lion-coloured T-shirt with an Indian goddess print (2 euros). I need to try and find out who she is. I also found a linen-polyester jacket (2 euros) and a linen dress (6 euros). So, 14 euros altogether, for which you might buy one poor quality shirt from a real clothing store. I've finally learnt to buy only garments I will wear, not the "oh this would be quite nice if I just..."-things that need some work before wearing. Sure I've dyed some shirts and dresses, some I've embroidered, some fixed in other ways, but mostly after I've worn them for a while first. These are now in the washing machine (nearly all clothes I've bought from flea markets have been washed with a smelly washing detergent, so they have an overwhelming odor of flowers and whatnot, nowadays known as Eau de Persil, which gives me headaches so I use white vinegar which dissolves the wall of scent).

The peak of the Perseids was day before yesterday and it was cloudy, so I missed them. Last night I went outside and saw two. I might go again tonight. I like the Perseids best - the nights are already dark enough to see them, but it's nice and warm even here in August so you don't freeze your ass off watching them.
