Mika alotti joululaululoil, aittelin jot täähä ois iha hauska.

Mika started to list his favourite Yuletide songs. I thought it was a good idea.

For a Finn who's ever spent Yule abroad this is a must. You can replace everything traditional but not this. And I really like Parviainen's voice. The song's about how Zacharias Topelius is in warm sunny Italy in Yuletide and, naturally, misses the dark cold north like hell. Finns. We're never happy. Should you listen to this with a Finn, keep some handkerchiefs ready.

NO ONE DOES CAROLS LIKE THE FINNS I tell you. Remember the one stating life lasts but a moment and even that's gloomy and dreary? There's another one telling how gentle every Christian feels now that "the eye of the sun has burnt out and the swallow is a long way away and the forest is desolate and empty and songless and" - well, I made my point I'm sure. There are more as merry as these, though.

This is a song about not looking for power or glory but for a nice proper Yuletide with food and presents even for the poor people and peace on Earth, a reminder to keep in mind the original idea of Christmas. (Original = the one from about 2000 years ago, not the pagan idea before that, what with all the Saturnalia and Mithra and Winter Solstice y'know, or the one nowadays which would nimby Mary and Joseph the hell outta my back yard slash barn, for that matter).

There's some serious heavy metal talent here and sums up this whole heavy metal carol thing nicely. This one is about the nativity scene WITH a reminder he'll make the greatest sacrifice of all and hang on the cross, eventually. So let's keep the joy to the minimum, now shall we!

Nää sisarukset tietäät mite tähä vuuveaikaa pittää suhtautuu. Just tällee. Eivät muute usiast nuku näi sovus saati lähekkäi, nii jot sen ker ko nukkuit, heti otin kuuvvaa.

I make plum tarts every other day (or so it seems) in yuletide. They're just so good.



Miu ei pitänt saaha mittää lahjoi tänä vuon, mut enis tul yks ylläri, sit tul koivuhalkoo pihhaa, tännää sain laatikollise karjalanpiirakkaa ja suvuvanhin sano jotakii possupalasest. Lisäks tännää tul postis paketti, nii jot on iha oikee lahja aattoiltan avattavaks! Oon iha nyyhniisk otettu näist kaikist, mitä työ nyt emmie mittää ois voi hyvä tähe sentäi. Ystävät on nii parhautta.

I wasn't supposed to get any yule presents this year. Right. First there was one surprise, then a load of firewood appeared, today I got some 45 Carelian rice pies, and Gran mentioned a piece of pork. In addition to all these, there was a parcel in the mail today, so I do have a present to open on Christmas Eve. I'm all mushy and overwhelmed and teared up here. Friends, they're the best thing.

Mie kahoin kaupas herroje Ben ja Jerry minikokosta pahvitötsää mil ol hintaa hitto seihtemä euroo jot elä unta nää ja alas imperialistine hapatus, ja ostinkii 1,65 eurol pipartaikinaa (vaniljajätskii sattu olemaa jo pakkases näätse. Sit ei tarvittu ko pienmuotosta raastamista ja jo vot. Kaikha tietäät jot pipartaikina männöö pilale jos sen paistaa, tää on oikiita käyttöö tää, kokkeilkaaha. Eikä maksa paljoo.

Ja mie ko en nii hirmusest tuost joulust ressaile, vähä meinasin imuroija vaik huomen, ni muu aja oon tietyst olt Tohtorin kans avaruuves ja ajas. Tännää käytin äitmuorii kaupoil ja huomasin kahtelevain kynttilälyhtyi sil silmäl, jot mikä ois enite oikiin muotone jot sen vois maalata Tardikseks ja välist kahtelen netist River Songin muistikirja kopioita jot onpas hienoi. DIY version innovation! I saw Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream at the store, the price was a whopping 7 euros for a small cup and I thought hell no. So instead I bought - duh - cookie dough for 1,65 euros and grated some over regular vanilla ice cream which I already had in the freezer. Everyone knows that gingerbread dough gets ruined when it's baked, right? It's at its best raw and this is (so far) the tastiest way to eat it. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

And since I'm not the start-preparing-for-yule-in-june-type, I'll probably just hoover a little and go get a spruce from the field and decorate it and cook good food (which I'd do anyway), I've had quality time with the Doctor in space and time. Today I went shopping with Mom and caught myself checking out the lanterns to see which ones were the right shape so they could be painted to look like the Tardis. I've also found myself googling for replicas of River Song's journal. This is geek life, you get carried away with something totally, and in my case they seem to be forever. If I'm into something, I'm into it for good. (Yes, I'm going to see The Force Awakens as soon as it's possible to do so.) And I probably wouldn't want it any other way.
