For some reason I hadn't made these before, ever. Now that they were specifically asked for, I gave it a try and made a few versions from which to choose. I still have a couple of those keychain lock thingys so might make a few more.

Apurloi ja ruokaa - Helpers, and food

I wanted to saw jump rings for chain maille and Lara wanted to help. She sometimes feels so much love there's simply no room for all of it in such a small cat so she needs to purr and walk after me and help and purr and jump and push and help and, well you get the picture(s). She helped for about ten minutes until she got tired and went for a nap. This is one of the reasons why my projects sometimes get delayed.



Eile söin kikhernecurryy soijasuikaleil (taas, mut ko se on vaa nii hyyvvää) ja sit illal tul veresokeri romahus, niiko hyvi ussei kasvisruua jälkee. Nii jot tännää tein miu toista luottoruokaa. Täl kertaa tähä tul ensiks öljyy, sipulii ja valkosipulii sekä tuoretta chiliä, niitä vähä aikaa pyörittelin, sit lisäsin salamisuikaleita pussist (jot kestäs se veresoker), sit purki paseerattuu tomaattii, sit lihaliemkuutio, sit täysjyväpastaa pätkittyn, härkäpapuloi pakkasest ja keitettyy ohraa ripsin kans rasiast sekkaa, ko sellanekkii pakkasest löyty. Yesterday I had chickpea curry (yes, again, but it simply is so good). Then later in the evening my blood sugar levels dropped, as often happens when I eat vegetarian. I get weak, my muscles shake, sometimes I get a headache. So today while making my other favourite I added some salami, hoping it will help. This time - the recipe varies every time I make this - I first put in onion, garlic, fresh chili and oil, then the salami, then a can of tomato passata, a stock cube, whole wheat spaghetti, some home grown fava beans from the freezer as well as boiled barley, which I also happened to have there - it sunk in there and disappeared totally. If the same will happen again then I just need to remember that eating vegetarian (or in this case, almost vegetarian) means I need two meals a day.

House of Cards

But first, let's eat. I made a chickpea curry with rice the other day. I didn't use all the chickpeas I boiled, so today I made another version with soybean meat. I cooked and drained them, then fried them with jeera and curry and tandoori spice and onion and garlic, added the chickpeas, then half a veggie broth cube & 2 dl of water and a squirt of tomato púree. I let it simmer for a while, took the pan off the heat and then poured in some leftover yoghurt. Done.




No sit, mie oon tänä viikonloppun kahelt House of Cardsin uutta kautta ja just sain kahtonee. Hyvä ol, mikä ei kyl olt mikkää üllatus. Siin samal neuloin ja tännää tein koruloita. Täs on jotakii jadentapasta kivvee ja kuparii.

So I watched the new season of House of Cards and it was good, no surprise there. While watching I knitted a sock and started another. Today I gave my shoulders a rest and made jewellery instead. This is faux jade with copper.

Sylvin kauheus tahi kauneus - The beauty or horror of soon-to-be-winter

We visited grandma's cottage to prepare it for the winter. Took a photo of what is nowadays known as "sylvi", combination of the Finnish words for autumn (syksy) and winter (talvi). Sylvi. There. I know there are people who love this time of year. Me, I'm not one of them.

Today I got a packet in the mail, it was from the bead store Gemelli. Now, I indeed have not ordered a single thing from bead shops for ages (sorry, I will pick up my old shop-till-you-drop habits as soon as my financial status permits) but then again this has happened before, so I immediately suspected my dear friend Helmisusi to be behind this. And indeed she was. She had noticed my complaints about the pliers being too big for dragonscale so she ordered the right size for me. Can you imagine? I've been weaving away swiftly the whole day and the bracelet will soon be finished. Thanks, friend!

Ketjuu ja huivii - Viking knit and a shawl

Se on melko tarkkaa kaks kertaa pitemp tuo ketju vejettyn. Nii jot tuos ois nyt nelkytviissenttine pätkä mist saattas tehä vaik kaulakorun. Koha hänest mikä sit tulloo, ei viel voi tietää enneks hää kertoo.

The viking knit just about doubles in length when pulled. So there's now 45 cm of it, which would make a necklace for instance - if that's what it decides to be. I do not know yet until it tells me.



Sit tein toisekii simpukkahuivi, ensimäine ol Puro Batikist, tää on nyt Saanast, vähä muuttelin ohjetta. Lankaa jäi viel melkei kilo, nii jot eikhä tuota tehtäne toinekii ja sitkii on viel melkei villapaitaa varte langat jälel.

I made another shawl with this pattern with small changes to the original. I still have almost a kilo of this yarn left, so I'm making another shawl and then perhaps a jumper, we'll see.

TSI-ruokapäivä - DIY food day

Tähä vois laittaa kuvan esmes hernekeitost elikkäs hernarist, mitä tännää keittelin kolme tuntii puuhellal. Sekkaa män yks kasvisliemikuutio ja paistettuu pekonii eikä sit muuta. Sitä tul kolmise litraa, ja niiko muino Twitteris todettii, #kaikkimeni. Mut se nyt ei oo kauhee sillee edustava ruoka, nii jot en kehtaa kuuvvaa laittaa. Hernari lisäks tein vaahtokarkkiloi taas, täl kerral lisäsi vähä mustikoist nestettä seoksee ni ei tult iha valkosii. Keittelin myös fudgee ja se on nyt hyytymäs jääkaapis yö yli. Maku ol kohillaa omnom jos vaa hyytyy sopivaiseks.

I could add a photo of peasoup here, but due to the unattractiveness of it, I won't. It's not a beautiful soup. But it was tasty - I cooked it for three hours on the wood stove, added one veggie broth cube and some bacon, and we ate nearly the whole three litres of it. In Finland pea soup is sold in cans, it's cheap and rather tasty to be honest, but this homemade version was way better.

I also made marshmallows again, this time I added some of the purple juice from a batch of thawed blueberries. It added a nice tint and gave some taste too, in addition to the vanilla I added to the mix. Then I made fudge which is now in the fridge and will stay there overnight, the taste is really good and now I'm just hoping it will settle properly so I can cut it to pieces. If it will not co-operate, I shall eat it with a spoon.

During the evening I added two meter-long strips of wire to the viking knit, then decided I'm done. Or at least my fingers are. Tomorrow I will measure this piece as is and then again after pulling it through the draw plate to see how much longer it becomes, I always forget to do that so I've no idea what the difference is. This is Vintaj Natural Brass wire, which is coloured so that it stays the same colour and does not build a patina. Copper-based metals are my favourites but they always change colour and not always beautifully, unless you add the patina yourself with a boiled egg, liver of sulphur or other patina agents.

Jotakii sinistä - Something blue

I got a custom order: a necklace for a friend of the sea, whose favourite colour is blue. I gathered some beads and silver in a bowl and started planning.

There were some interruptions, like a cat that wanted tenderness.

Due to my handicap, I've got a lot of advice how to handle it. My ways of taking that advice might be a little original. A physical therapist once told me I needed to strengthen my left arm so I moved all my bracelets from my right wrist to the left. Today I fixed a broken one and added it and started to think they make a nice bunch so I decided to weigh them just for fun. Less than 100 grams! There's plenty of room for more! Me and my beading friends have long known that overdoing is the best way, after all. Now I'm thinking kinged vipera berus, a nice and heavy weave, I'm just not sure if I have enough silver wire left. And I need to order a mandrel for that, I'm still lacking the 5,5 mm.

The colours are way off at this time of darkness but this is what I came up with. There's Swarovski, rock crystal, freshwater pearls, sodalite and silver.

Viikinkiketjuu - Viking knit

Yesterday evening I sat on the sofa with a very uncooperative knitting needle making viking knit. It seems all my tools are against me this month with the pliers that are too big and the missing mandrel for a specific weave and now the way too slippery needle. But I managed some viking knit anyway, therefore today I got my vice and drawing plate.



Nii jot ensiks tehhää leviä neulos mikä sit kiskotaa numerojärjestykses rei'ist läpi, se vennyy ja tiivistyy ja nätistyy siin oikei mukavast.

The original knit is pulled through the holes of the drawing plate, making it longer and tighter and prettier (hopefully).

Mänin mehtää - Went to the woods

I packed Mom and the dog to the car and we headed to the woods. My intention was to gather mushrooms and Mom wanted all kinds of decorative stuff for her balcony. The dog ran free (it's permitted this time of the year since she's a hunting dog) and now she's really happy and dead tired from doing Real Dog Work. We didn't catch any elks though, didn't even find places where they'd slept. But it's the chase, not the catch, right?



Eikähä tuolt löytynt yhe yhtäkää suppilovahveroo. I on the other hand walked like a Hemulen nose close to the ground but did not find one single winter mushroom. They're always hard to find in this specific area with all the fallen leaves that imitate mushrooms astonishingly well, but this year they're gone altogether. People post on Facebook photos of thick carpets of moss, without one single fallen leaf but with wide-spread winter mushrooms, and I am really really jealous - why do some people have such easy jobs finding them, whereas I walk bent over and lift these piles of leaves gently, just to find one? Life, you're not fair.



Mut ainakii rannekoru eistyy, vaik joka ilta kirroon ja ootan rahapäivää jot saan paremmat pihit tilattuu. But the bracelet grows slowly every day. Although every day I curse my pliers and anxiously wait for the next money day so I can order new pliers. There's this ZINGGG sound and the jump ring I'm weaving just flings away to the next room or so it seems, so no, this weave with wrong-sized pliers is not for the impatient people. Oh yeah and it seems in the photo that there's an error on the left side but it's not, it's just a jump ring that was twisted a bit. The piece is flawless I tell you, at least so far.
