Neuloja UFO ei liitele taivaal, ko se on keskeneräne juttu (unfinished object). Niitä oon täs jälitelt eri laatikoist ja pistänt takasii työ alle.

A knitter's UFO is not in the sky but an UnFinished Object. I have been tracking them from drawers and yarn baskets and started working on them again.

And then something awesome. You know when a person starts working for the public side and immediately begins to favour their friends? Yeah well me too. I suggested we could ask Anna Kortelainen to visit and tell us about her search for family members in Vyborg. We did and she said yes. We met in 1990 and since then she's written several books, fact and fiction both, been on TV and what not (not to mention she's just a wonderful person) so I figured some interest might arise if she came to visit. Indeed it did! We ran out of chairs several times and I counted more than 130 listeners, which is HUGE here in our hoods. Her story was extremely enchanting and we all listened so silently I could sometimes hear the library book code reader beeping all the way from the desk. Thanks, Anna, for a wonderful evening!

My Yule was yesterday. Another geek girl had replaced her Assassin's Creed games for the newer PlayStation so she suggested sending me these PS3 versions for the cost of the postage. So now I have the whole series, all 6 games, which I could not have afforded otherwise. I also got some white chocolate with blueberries in the mail and gas - in the form of a gift card, not in liquid - so that I could participate on a writers' course next year. Unfortunately the course ended up to be longer than I expected and a fee was added so I'll have to skip it but I solemnly sweared to drive around just for fun otherwise.

And then the wrist band - I've wanted to have a Fitbit one for ages so I could get data on what affects my pain levels. Excel, you know, geek as I am, to the rescue. Then I found out that Fitbit is not waterproof. Then a Finnish online electronics store published their yearly "don't buy this stuff" lists and the Fitbits were on the podium with most problems. So I switched my wanting to Garmin which is waterproof and has a heart rate monitor and now my dear friend organized so that I got a second hand band. The joy! I've been tweaking settings and syncing and whatnot and waiting to build up  a database about different weather and meals and activity and stuff to see what has the biggest impact. No, materia is not the goal of life, but I sure appreciate these gifts now that I've gone so long with no possibilities to buy anything I want. This lot will cover several Yules.

Silmukkamerkkilöi pyyveltii, sellasii jot paksukii puikko männöö läp. I was asked for stitch markers. The largest mandrel I've got is 7 mm so I had to invent. I took a piece of 12 mm copper tube and made the rings with it, then sawed really carefully holding the spiral in my fingers. No bloodshed, yay. Then I added glue and a bead and now there are 30+ of these going to be tested. I also knitted a pair of tailored fingerless mittens but there's no photo of them, at least not yet.

I have had the urge to do more ever since, preferably with beads. So once again without thinking I blurted out in Facebook if any of my friends had seen seed bead colour kits in bead shops (as I had donated my own selection years ago thinking I'd never use them). This was in the mailbox today from my friend Katri. All these beads!

Sekalaisii - Miscellaneous

The weather sucks so I had another baking day. The first strawberries were ripe but it looks bad for the rest, with this kind of weather there'll be mold and rot and whatnot.

The rain alone is bad but add some storms to it and there go the trees again. One would think that after the storms of 2010 the remaining trees could take anything but nah - if the wind hits them from another direction, some fall. The electricity was on and off and on again for a couple of days after the storm on Sunday until all the power lines had been fixed. Poor electricians, they always get to hike in bad weather.

My friend asked on Facebook if we could guess the day her orchid blossoms. I got the day right so I won the bracelet on the left, the one with the peace sign. The next one to the right is stamped with the text "not all those who wander are lost". The green one is blank (yet pretty!) and the brown one has the whole second verse of the "not all" poem:

Mut! Tännää ol hito kiva päivä - ensiks käytii suvu naisii kans kirppiskierros. Löysin neljä puseroo ja yhe pellavamekon, puserot kustansiit 50 senttii kappale. Kaks ol upouusii hihattommii toppiloita, yks fleecepusero, sekkii uus, ja neljäis ol musta T-paita mihi ol painettu Vincent van Goghin iirikset. Vincent!! Miu lemppar! Viel ko joskus hommaan Starry Night-paian ni vot. Pellavamekko makso kokonaiset kolme ja puol euroo. Sit tein viel löyvön velmiehele, hää ko kaipail pojillee säkkituoliloita ni löyty kaks ja halval ko hitto. Sit  käytii viel Ilose pässi maalaispuojis kahvil ja siel ol näi ihana uus myyjä. Mie en ois malttant niiko lähtii ensikää sielt pois.

Today was a great day though. First we did a shopping spree with auntie and Mom and stormed the flea markets. I bought four shirts for 50 cents a piece: two brand new sleeveless tops, one fleece sweater and a black T-shirt with Vincent van Gogh's irises printed on the front. Vincent! My favourite! (One day I will get myself a Starry Night shirt too and then my life will be complete.) Then we had coffee at a great little shop which sells farmers' products from all over the country plus buffalo burgers (yes, buffalo, the North American one) and organic food and ethically produced pork and all kinds of great stuff. Anyway, they had hired this new sales purrson. I could have stayed indefinitely.



Ja sit kamu kysäs jot kiinnostaskos minnuu lähtii kahtomaa Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen sanan keikkaa Imatrale. Ai kiinnostasko! Voip kuulostaa ouvolt yhistää big band-musiikki ja räppi, mut niiko sanonta kuuluu, sehä svengaa ko hirvi ja mie oon olt fani ensimäisest levyst ast (ja räppäreihe osalt GG Caravanist enne sitä). Keikka ol ilmane ja mahtava ja ol hito kiva nähä ystävää pitkäst aikaa - miehä en oo käynt kenekää luon aikapäivii, koska syyt, ni et ol kyl mukavaa.

Nää räppärit on miu sankarloi. Palefacel on ilmeisest olt joko huuli- tai suulakihalkio niiko miulkii, ja se et siit lähtökohast päätyy räppäriks on aika hito upee juttu. And then my friend asked if I'd like to go see Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen sana. Well, duh! The band combines jazzy big band style music with modern hip hop, yes it migh sound weird but as we say in Finland, it swings like a moose. I've been a fan since the first album. The gig was free and awesome and it was great to see my friend again - I haven't visited anyone in ages due to reasons.

The rappers (Paleface, Lindgren, Redrama) are my heroes. Paleface apparently has had cleft lip or palate in his youth just like I did, and for someone with that background to become a rapper is awesome. Lindgren can rap so fast & so long I have a hard time believing it's even possible. Redrama has fought with addictions and conquered them. And the band is such a bunch of skillful musicians you actually _feel_ their talent, like an aura.

I got an SMS today. A parcel had arrived. From Espoo.

My dear friend had sent me all kinds of stuff: tea, spices, a waist support and the journal which is hilarious and which I will surely use a lot.

Behind this one was a note saying "and you most certainly are not". Thank you! This means I'm going to make tea and now, depending on my mood and feelings, I have plenty to choose from.



Tänää tehtii pienmuotone autoajelu äiskä kans, shoppasin koiraruokaa ja sensellasta. Sielt tultuu tekasin ruuvaks mustapapupihvilöi ja ranskalaisii uunis, sipasin omenapiiraan jälkruuvaks ja sit ko ker uuni ol lämmi ni veivasin kikhernejauhoist intialaisii leipäsii minkä nimi on suomalaisittai papadam. Ne on siis ohkasii leipäsii minkä taikinaa on milijuuna reseptii, mie laitoin puoltoist dessii kikhernejauhoo, jeeraa elikkäs juustokuminaa, mustapippurii ja vettä .Taikina on tiukka ja napakka ja jauhoo pittää olla kaulites, mie kyl säästelin tätä spesiaalijauhoo ja käytin siihe vehnäjauholoi. We did a little roadtrip today with Mom, I shopped dogfood and little else. When I came home I made black bean steaks and french fries in the oven, then an apple pie for dessert, and took advantage of the heat by making poppadoms and drying them in the oven when the food was done. The recipes for poppadoms vary, I used 1,5 dls of chickpea flour, some jeera and black pepper and water. The dough must be firm and needs flour when it's rolled thin - I saved my precious chickpea flour and used normal wheat flour for that. Two poppadoms went into the woodstove oven, the rest in the electric oven. I could put them in an airtight container until it's time to eat them but I think there will be no need for that, I'll probably dip these in hot oil tonight and eat them ALL.

I had a wonderful time putting all the spices and ingredients into jars, marking each carefully so I won't mix them up and end up with rather interesting dishes. Now all I need is a leg of a lamb and Moroccan scents will take over the house.

Chickpea flour is not available in our little stores and chickpeas themselves are expensive enough that I haven't made flour of them, they always end up either in a curry or the yummy salad by Jamie Oliver. Now that I have this I'm going to test some chickpea based breads, including poppadom which I've always wanted to make at home. We'll see how it goes. I don't wish to upset you or anything but you do realize I have the best friends in the world. Thank you, California Girl ;)

Vandaaliloist tää Lissu on olt miu suosikki alust lähtei, tykkään myös kovast tuosta alnäkyväst Kullervost. Tän kassi kans myö männää paikkoloihi, iha mihi vaa se pääsöö miu mukkaa.

Got gifts from friends. Friends are awesome. The other sent me a Moomin glass, the other package contained a Gandalf t-shirt, an art vandals bag* and some beads she's made herself. Thrilled!!

*art vandals is a comedy page on Facebook, they take a painting and create a saying to go with it. My favourite is this, which says "If you play Nothing Else Matters once more, Lizzy, I'll throw you and that f*cking mandoline overboard." I also highly enjoy this one, in which the Kalevala antihero Kullervo is trying to find a strong 3G signal, as promised by his mobile operator. These images became so popular they set up a shop and business is good. I will take my bag EVERYWHERE!
