You might have noticed how I barely can contain my excitement about the weather, time of year and that kind of stuff.

We concentrated on ticket sales and sold a lot, the visitor numbers were great.

I have a large collection of pictures of rainy weather from this summer. It was raining when I took this one, too - I was going for a dogwalk and looked outside and thought how nice it looked and how great it was that it didn't rain for a change, only it did anyway. I'm not sure if you know your Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as well as I do, but there's a character Rob McKenna for whom I have endless sympathy.



Sit ko millo on vähä aikaa satamatta ni perhosii on vaik kui. Neitoperhosii erityisest ja amiraalitkii ilmestyit. Se on kiva.

On the rare occasions when it's not raining: there are lots of butterflies. Which is nice.

Jotakii sentää tulloo kasvimaalt. Lehtikaalsato tulloo olemaa runsas. Härkäpappuu ei paljo oltkaa, pottuu viel muutamaa ruokaa ja pensaspappuu tulloo sitäkii määrääse nähe iha hyvi.

There's something in the garden at least. Kale is plentiful, there are potatoes for a few meals left, and the beans did quite well considering I didn't plant that much.

The Perseids were peaking a while ago. I got all prepped and went to see how nicely clouded the sky was and came back inside.

Sattaa - It rains

Forrest Gumpis on kohtaus mis alkaa sattaa ja sit se sattaakii kaike aikaa pari kuukautta. Vähä tuntuu samalt. No, eile tein sit pullaa.

There's a scene in Forrest Gump where it starts to rain and keeps raining for months. I think it's happening in real life here. Yesterday I baked to forget the rain.

In the evening it stopped and the sky was momentarily blue. Today it's grey again.

For a while I thought the dogs heard a bear but fortunately it was something else this time.

The only things growing in the garden are peas and beans. No sun, no crops.

Töis alko kuuluu outoo ääntä ja män hetko enneks mie tajusin, jot se ol steppaava kattoikkunalokki.

One day at work I heard a weird sound. It took a minute to realize it was a seagull tapdancing on a skylight.

As far as work is concerned, I continue hauling stuff home. This is the catch of one day - 52 best songs by a Finnish punk band, Tolkien's Kullervo (hey ho Kalevala go) and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy audio book, read by Stephen Fry. He's also read all the Harry Potters (IMNSHO the best audio books I've ever listened to) and now I get to explore the universe with him. I'm also reading his memoirs, just finished the first part and now moving to the second phase in which Hugh Laurie comes along. Bliss.

Kirjontaa! Ko ei oo noita harrastuksii - Embroidery! After all I have such few hobbies

Nii, miehä oon tok kirjont aikasemmikii, alotin tuollasest helpost niiko Throri kartast.

I have embroidered before. Decided to start with something easy at the time, like with Thror's map.




Sittemmi on teht miel kokkeilla kirjomista uuvestaa ja mielellää helmilöi kans. Mänin sit taas kysymää Faces jot onks kukkaa näht siemenhelmii missää kaupas sellasin värisekotuksin mitkä ois täs hommas kätevii (omat olin lahjottant vuosii sit pois ko aittelin jot en mie taija näitä käyttää), ja tälläne löyty sit tännää postlaatikost. I have had the urge to do more ever since, preferably with beads. So once again without thinking I blurted out in Facebook if any of my friends had seen seed bead colour kits in bead shops (as I had donated my own selection years ago thinking I'd never use them). This was in the mailbox today from my friend Katri. All these beads!

So as my job comes with some certain  benefits I immediately got these from the shelves.

Otherwise this is what's going on. It rained yesterday morning, this was taken yesterday evening after dogwalk. It rains so often and much at a time that nothing dries up (except my sense of humour which resembles a bread crumb).

Tää työllise elämä on nyt sellasta jot kaik pittää ahtaa viikoloppuloihe. Nii jot kitkin kasvimaan, käin antiikkipäivil ja sukulaisii kahtomas, sienes, mansikkamaal, ja sit tietyst viel normi kotihommat (niiko pyykkii, ko ne on nyt luvanneet jottei muutamaa päivää satas niiko ensikää, saap nähä minen uso) ja muutama etappi Tour de Francee, minkä otan nauhale ja kahon ko kerkiin, nyt ol vuoros etappi 12 mil sattu lopus kolari moottorpyörä kans ja Froome läks juoksemaa loppumatkaa, iha mahotonta. Now that I'm working again I need to stuff all the other activities into weekends. So this weekend I visited the antique fair, visited family, looked for mushrooms, picked the few strawberries the garden had to offer, and did the normal household chores including laundry as it's supposed not to rain for a few days at least (we'll see about that, I'm not getting my hopes up). Also, I'm recording the Tour de France stages and watching them when I have the time so today I watched stage 12 - the one with the collision with motorcycles in the end, when Froome started running towards the finish line (but was later reinstated with the yellow jersey because it wasn't his fault he lost so much time).

So today I took a basket and a small berry bucket with me and went to the woods thinking I'd go for mushrooms first, and if they aren't any, I'll pick some blueberries. Well I got a basketful of boletes - most of them had gone a bit bad already but I managed to carve some good bits anyway. I had decided not to take the dogs with me this time but didn't have to go alone anyway, Rontti followed me and kept guard while I was picking.

Sekalaisii - Miscellaneous

No ensinnäkkii - tää humu täytti seihtemätoist tuos juhannukse korvil, tarkkaa päivää ei tiijetä. Kuule hää ei ennää oikei hyväst ja sit hänel on sellane metka tapa jot hää juoksoo autoi vastaa ja männöö niihe alle tutkimaa, nii jot vähä sellasta kamikazemeininkii. Mut kuitekii. Hää on mei ukkel.

He is now seventeen. His hearing is poor and he has a suicidal habit of running towards cars as they turn to the yard which is a bit dangerous, really. But he's our old dude.

The weather sucks so I had another baking day. The first strawberries were ripe but it looks bad for the rest, with this kind of weather there'll be mold and rot and whatnot.

The rain alone is bad but add some storms to it and there go the trees again. One would think that after the storms of 2010 the remaining trees could take anything but nah - if the wind hits them from another direction, some fall. The electricity was on and off and on again for a couple of days after the storm on Sunday until all the power lines had been fixed. Poor electricians, they always get to hike in bad weather.

Some just got bent.



Kamusein kysel Faces jot mitä luullaa millo häne orkidean kukka aukiaa. Onnistuin arvaamaa oikei ja siit hyväst sain tuon vasemmapuolimmaise ihanuuve. Siit seuraavas lukkoo "not all those who wander are lost", vihree on tekstitön ja ruskiis on sit tuo wander-runon koko toine säkkeistö. Miu pies vaa kehittää vihreesee ja ruskeesee joku niksi jottei lukot aukiais, harmittas suunnattomast jos ne häviäät.

My friend asked on Facebook if we could guess the day her orchid blossoms. I got the day right so I won the bracelet on the left, the one with the peace sign. The next one to the right is stamped with the text "not all those who wander are lost". The green one is blank (yet pretty!) and the brown one has the whole second verse of the "not all" poem:

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

A light from the shadows shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,

The crownless again shall be king.

Mut! Tännää ol hito kiva päivä - ensiks käytii suvu naisii kans kirppiskierros. Löysin neljä puseroo ja yhe pellavamekon, puserot kustansiit 50 senttii kappale. Kaks ol upouusii hihattommii toppiloita, yks fleecepusero, sekkii uus, ja neljäis ol musta T-paita mihi ol painettu Vincent van Goghin iirikset. Vincent!! Miu lemppar! Viel ko joskus hommaan Starry Night-paian ni vot. Pellavamekko makso kokonaiset kolme ja puol euroo. Sit tein viel löyvön velmiehele, hää ko kaipail pojillee säkkituoliloita ni löyty kaks ja halval ko hitto. Sit  käytii viel Ilose pässi maalaispuojis kahvil ja siel ol näi ihana uus myyjä. Mie en ois malttant niiko lähtii ensikää sielt pois.

Today was a great day though. First we did a shopping spree with auntie and Mom and stormed the flea markets. I bought four shirts for 50 cents a piece: two brand new sleeveless tops, one fleece sweater and a black T-shirt with Vincent van Gogh's irises printed on the front. Vincent! My favourite! (One day I will get myself a Starry Night shirt too and then my life will be complete.) Then we had coffee at a great little shop which sells farmers' products from all over the country plus buffalo burgers (yes, buffalo, the North American one) and organic food and ethically produced pork and all kinds of great stuff. Anyway, they had hired this new sales purrson. I could have stayed indefinitely.



Ja sit kamu kysäs jot kiinnostaskos minnuu lähtii kahtomaa Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen sanan keikkaa Imatrale. Ai kiinnostasko! Voip kuulostaa ouvolt yhistää big band-musiikki ja räppi, mut niiko sanonta kuuluu, sehä svengaa ko hirvi ja mie oon olt fani ensimäisest levyst ast (ja räppäreihe osalt GG Caravanist enne sitä). Keikka ol ilmane ja mahtava ja ol hito kiva nähä ystävää pitkäst aikaa - miehä en oo käynt kenekää luon aikapäivii, koska syyt, ni et ol kyl mukavaa.

Nää räppärit on miu sankarloi. Palefacel on ilmeisest olt joko huuli- tai suulakihalkio niiko miulkii, ja se et siit lähtökohast päätyy räppäriks on aika hito upee juttu. Lindgren räppää nii nopiaa ja pitkää jot sitä on vaikii uskoo et se on ehkees mahollista. Redramal taas on takan voitettu taistelu addiktioihe kans. And then my friend asked if I'd like to go see Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen sana. Well, duh! The band combines jazzy big band style music with modern hip hop, yes it migh sound weird but as we say in Finland, it swings like a moose. I've been a fan since the first album. The gig was free and awesome and it was great to see my friend again - I haven't visited anyone in ages due to reasons.

The rappers (Paleface, Lindgren, Redrama) are my heroes. Paleface apparently has had cleft lip or palate in his youth just like I did, and for someone with that background to become a rapper is awesome. Lindgren can rap so fast & so long I have a hard time believing it's even possible. Redrama has fought with addictions and conquered them. And the band is such a bunch of skillful musicians you actually _feel_ their talent, like an aura.

Kiiltomato - Glowworm - Lampyris noctiluca

Eile illal mänin kahtelemmaa yötä ja keskel pihhaa ruohotupsus hiilu vihreetä valloo. No mie järkkärii hakemaa ja taas olin kerint unohtaa kaik hanikat mist sääty aukko ja mist valotus ja ko en joutant ottamaa jalustaa ni kaik täräht, sit toinkii järkkäri sisäle ja otin kännykäl hänest kuva.

Oon näht ennekii kiiltomatoloi, mut miu mielest myöhempää kesäl. No, tänä kesän kaik on aikases, tuntuu jot syyssatteetkii saahaa jo hitto kesäkuus. Ja mie ko oon aurinko-ohjautuva olento ni miustha tää on persiest, mie halluun sinistä taivasta ja aurinkoo, nythä tää on niiko asus Amazonil sademehtäs.

Last night I stepped outside to check out the night and there it was, in the middle of the yard in a patch of grass, a green glow. I hurried inside to fetch the camera, then noticed I've forgotten every single button and switch and how to modify the settings, totally, so I brought the camera back indoors and grabbed the phone to get at least one picture. So there.

I've seen these before but if I remember correctly it was later in the summer. This summer is early in every sense though - it feels like the autumn rains have all arrived in June. And as I am a sun-operated being, for me it SUCKS. Big time. I want clear skies and sunny weather - now it feels like we're living in the rain forest.

Lara

Ain ko mie mään kasvimaale, Lara ilmiintyy siihe samatie ja ilmottaa jot kissanhellimine on kyl paljo tähellisempää hommaa ko jokkuu kitkemine. Ja niihä se vähä on.

Whenever I go to the vegetable garden, Lara immediately apparates and says cuddling with her is much more important than weeding. Cannot argue with that.




Sit ko se väsähtää, se ehtii nukkumapaikan millo mistäkii. Niiko vaik kaivokannelt. Tuo pumppu löyty muute romikselt vuon 2010, sillo ko ol ne myrskyt ja oltii kolmatta viikkoo ilma sähköö ni alko ämpäril vei nostamine käyvä tylsäks. When she gets tired she finds a good place for a nap, like for instance on the lid of the well. See that pump? It's been there since 2010, when two storms hit us with jet stream winds and the power was gone for about 3 weeks. We got tired lifting water from the well with a rope and a bucket so we visited a scrap yard and bought the pump, then fixed it. Ironically, the power was restored about 15 minutes after the pump had been installed but it has been used quite actively ever since. Now, especially, that the faucet outside is broken. And after all you never know when the power goes out again here in the countryside, been there done that but didn't want the T-shirt.

Juhannus - Midsummer

Meil ei juhlita mittää päivii millokaa mitekää, nii jot tännää seurasin Brexit-uutisii, sit virittelin lahjakssaatuu vanhaa läppärii kuntoo, kitkin mansikkamaata ja sen jälkee vähä söin ja köllötin hetkisen vilti pääl pihamaal, mikä ei kylläkää oo yhtää normirutiinii mut ko kerrakii ol satamatta. Nyt koskoo päätä (migreeni, ei iteaiheutettuu siis) ja väsyttää iha hitoksee, tekis miel männä nukkumaa mut viel on koiralenkki ja muut iltahommat niiko joka ilta ni ei viel voi. Pittää ottaa lääke ja tormistautuu tekemää ne. Koiralenkin tien kyl iha pihamaal, mökkilöil on paljo ihmisii ja heil on koirat vappain, nii jot normilenkkipolule ei oo assiita jottei tuu rähäköitä. Suntai-iltan sit voip ehkä jo männäkii sinnepäi, koha kahotaa. Oisin laittant kylvyn tulile, mut ko vesposti otti ja hajos, ni ämpärhommil ois aika urakka miu selällei kantaa ammeelline vettä, en rupia. Täs on nyt kuitekii matarakiitäjä mikä käi näytil tännää ko olin pihamaal.

We never celebrate anything so even though it's Midsummer (which is a big thing in Finland) I've had a quite normal day. In the morning I watched the Brexit result and news, then tried to revive & tune an old laptop, then weeded some strawberry rows. Made lunch and then went outside to rest a bit on a blanket on the yard. That's highly unusual for me but it didn't rain today so I thought I'd give it a try. Now I have a migraine for a change and am really tired, if it weren't for the dogwalk and other daily chores I've still got to do, I'd go to bed. So, I'm going to take a migraine pill and try to get through them. We're not able to do our normal dogwalk route as the summer cabins are full of people and dogs which run free so instead it'll be a short walk on the yard to avoid dogfights. Perhaps on Sunday the cabin dwellers have left, we'll see. I would have made a bath but the faucet outside broke and carrying a tubful of water with buckets is a bit too much for my back so had to give up the idea. But here's a Hyles gallii for you, it came to say hi today.

Itärajal ei mittää uutta - Nothing new on the Eastern border

Lauvantain ol viitise minuuttii poutaa. Käin sillo kasvimaal ja sain seuraa, neljä viijest ol mukan. Nii tää on sit se kasvimaa vanha puol mihi tarviais pientä laittoo niiko näkkyy. En oo jaksant.

On Saturday it stopped raining for about five minutes which I spent in the vegetable garden with 4 out of 5 cats as company. This is the old side of the vegetable garden which needs some serious work, haven't been up to it so it is what it is.









Käin ehtimäs tattiloi ko koiralenki varres huomasin yhe lehmäsellase. Mehtäst ei kuitekaa viel löytynt.

I went looking for boletes - I spotted one on the dogwalk but it grew in the pee-infected area so I couldn't pick that one. I found none in the forest yet, though.

I did the front lawn and it's quite tidy now. Let's not even mention the other side of the yard where a meter-and-a-half jungle awaits the day when I'm painless and energetic. The cat appreciated the effort though and came to take a break with me.
