Ylläri ystävälle - A surprise for a friend

Sain kamult lankaa ja sehä ol iha toise kamu väristä, nii jot pistin Ullaneulee Väinöt puikoile ja postittelin yllärin. Tännää olliit peril nii jot kuvankii voip julkassa.

A dear friend sent me yarn and it was the exact colour another dear friend likes so I knitted a pair of legwarmers and sent them as a surprise. They had arrived today so I can now publish the photo here.

Pyry - Blizzard

The car started yesterday which is great, the freezing temperatures didn't kill it after all so I could drive to the village to get some groceries. A blizzard arrived to cheer up all those who had missed snow. Well, now you have it. We also get snow dunes on the road.

I bought this for 2,5 pounds at Ebay. We're using rechargeable accus, haven't bought batteries in years, but some of the accus are in poor shape. With this I can identify them and remove them from the cycle. It's quite annoying to charge the accus for the headlight, head into the woods and end up in the dark when one of the accus decides to stop working, this should prevent those occasions.

The cold has an inevitable consequence, sciatica. Therefore I've tried to keep my arse warm with a heating pad and this. Kylmä - Cold

The winter came. Yesterday it was -27 degrees Celsius, today a bit more, the forecast says -12 for Sunday (practically summer after these temperatures). It's cold enough for me to cover my face, so I created my Lawrence of Arabia instant imitation before going. This was taken at the beginning of the dogwalk, so my eyelashes and the scarf are not frosted white yet.

The dog thinks it's nice that the heat wave is finally over. An Arctic breed thrives in the cold.

Well actually Huawei, 4G wireless router. I ordered it to lower our Internet costs and even though 4G is mostly unavailable, the 3G reception is good and all our gadgets now connect through this device. It has worked very well, as I said, I've watched 8 seasons of Doctor Who from Netflix.

The router needs to be close to a window and I had placed it on a pillow which is mostly used by the cats, since it's a warm place near the radiator with a view to the field. This is not a good place for a fragile gadget as any cat owner can testify.

So I crocheted this pouch today with holes for cooling. And one for the power cord.

And now the pouch is hanging from a window opener handle (which I'm still going to secure). The power cord will be taped to the window frame, otherwise it's too attractive to the cats. But all in all I am happy with the result.

After watching 8 seasons of Doctor Who (season 9 is not yet on Netflix) I went to the Vatican with the Borgias. Somehow I missed the series when it was on Finnish TV so it's all new to me. While watching I knitted a pair of fingerless gloves for Grandma - I made a beige pair for Yule, but now that a friend sent me some yarn (yay, yarn! My favourite!) and I noticed one of the skeins was exactly the same colour as Grandma's winter coat, I knitted another pair. It's -20 (for the whole week it seems and it will get even colder) so I put the car's block heater on so in about an hour I can go and deliver the gloves and pick up some groceries while I'm at it. People have hoped for a real winter, now it's here in all its glory and I'm disliking every minute of it. 3 months till spring.

Talvi tul - Winter came

Winter came all right, it was -18 Celsius this morning. Brr I say. I checked the doghouses yesterday and the hay padding was kind of low so I drove to the Russels today to buy some more. The Russels are so cute, whenever I go there I decide the next dog in the family will be a Russel.

I drooled these River Song journals on Etsy and Ebay. Then I found a BBC downloadable page and got this cover image from there. A little adjusting to the measurements and an old notebook and now I have it. And saved money in the making (if we're not counting the ink cartridges for the printer, which after all will be used for other stuff, too. In related news: it's surprising how little blue ink I've got left, the yellow and magenta are nearly full.)

The freezing weather is the perfect time to thaw the freezer and reorganize it. It's surprising how much blueberries someone has picked and frozen. I'll never run out of blueberries although I make desserts with them all the time. Berry quark is one of my favourites: whipped cream, quark, strawberries and blueberries (from the freezer, but thawed) mixed together. Delicious and - up to a point - healthy as well, blueberry being the superfood of the north.
